Crispy cool air with a mountain view. Calm, relaxing, and an enjoyable place. This is Sierra Nevada Granada in the summer – a wonderful get away for those like us that want to escape the heat and humidity of southern spain’s summer. Don’t get me wrong, I love the beach! The sand on my toes, the sea, the breeze… but… and this is a big BUT… living in a place where there is no central air and the humidity percentage is very high, making the actual temperature feel much hotter, drives me crazy! Sure, when we are at the beach it feels wonderful but since we have responsibilities and can’t do them in our swimsuits (sad face here) it drives us to look for a refuge from the hottest time of the summer.
Sierra Nevada Granada is so beautiful in the summer. I know it is known for their ski season but it is so nice in the summer too. We stayed in Pradollano in this beautiful apartment from Inside Plaza.
What a view! And it was so nice to have the windows opened to let in the cool fresh air of the mountain. It felt like fall. I am a big sucker of the fall weather so I was so happy!
We took the cablecar and then the ski lift all the way to the top. The ski lift was an adventure for the kids. They loved it.
From the top we saw cows, we had a great view of Granada, and we even found some snow! That was a refreshing surprise!
We also went hiking in Monachil. That was definitely the highlight of our trip. It was very hot though, and I would definitely recommend it when the weather is a bit cooler but nonetheless we had a great time. Joy walked a lot of the hike and I was very proud of her. Also we had our Ergo carrier (we never travel without a carrier) and Keith carried her for part of the hike.
Nicholas of course is a natural explorer! He crossed the hanging bridge, walked in the creeks, under the rocks… and every time he had a big smile on his face. Even though we were running low on snacks and took the longer trail (by mistake) to get where we wanted, and didn’t have lunch until 5pm, he was still glowing! That is why we take them hiking every time we can! They learn how to be in the moment and enjoy it. They experience the pure joy we get just to be in nature, even when we are exhausted!
I hope you guys have enjoyed some of these pics! If you have a chance to visit Granada in the summer, definitely check it out Sierra Nevada to escape the heat. The spectacular views of the mountains will make the ride going up worth it!
